Far away

Been far away for a while
Hidden behind false smiles.

Lost in worried movement
Thinking myself away
From the skittish fears
Of tomorrow, not today.

Getting back to reflection
Feeling this pencil again
Like an old friend
between my fingers.

Trying to capture the movement
Of these feelings again
Filling the palette of expression
With all the colours of my experience
Forgotten momentarily, once again vital.

And the canvas explodes with colour
Loud splatters, metaphors
No longer muted from fulfilled description

And the canvas is no longer blank
But expanding outwards
Hungry for more words, more expression
Broader brush strokes, greater detail
pushing from raw impressions and emotions
into matured, ripened distilled description

Here is an expanding landscape
Rising up from a deserted plain
Detail rising from ambiguity
And beneath my bare feet
The earth feels new again.

Rock Bottom Riser

This man Smog (AKA Bill Calahan) is something else. Just the poetics, metaphor and allegory here resonates within me. The clip just adds movement to the whole impact of the song. When I hear this song I just feel the poet within me moving and swaying with all the feeling and passion that compels me to write. Thanks Bill and I hope you take the time to listen to more of his work, truly worth it. Hope you like 'Rock Bottom Riser'
